O gracious and holy Father,
give us wisdom to perceive you,
intelligence to understand you,
diligence to seek you,
patience to wait for you,
eyes to behold you,
a heart to meditate upon you,
and a life to proclaim you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
a prayer of St Benedict (c.480-c.547)
If some are ready to portray Christianity as less than intellectually respectable and something of a cop-out in the modern world, we dare to differ! Many people gravitate to St Paul’s Knightsbridge because of the quality of the preaching and of the opportunities for learning, thinking and deepening of understanding.
St Benedict’s prayer is interesting. It suggests that ‘knowledge’ of God is something that demands more than just our minds – it is about our readiness to re-orientate our whole selves to the task of seeking after God. At St Paul’s we are committed to helping people to do just that.
